When we encounter aggressive behavior, we may respond with fear, anger, confusion, or a combination of emotions. How we manage ourselves and respond during a crisis dramatically affects our ability to maintain safety and influences how the person behaves in the future. Since youth are extremely impressionable and vulnerable, we must recognize how our interactions and interventions may help or hurt their development and impact our relationship with them.
To effectively manage crisis situations and support those experiencing emotional distress, we must be able to recognize the early stages of crisis and apply interventions that are appropriate for the person's stage of escalation. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to effectively respond to a crisis using the therapeutic model for crisis intervention.
Learning Objectives
During this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate the techniques for fostering an environment in which crisis is less likely to occur
- Describe how your feeling, interactions, and attitudes affect the climate of our organization
- Utilize effective responses to create a win-win situation
