If the youth is in need for care and support for educational, social, or physical reasons.

Is the Extended Medicaid Option Available for Youth Until 21?

No

Determined under the federal poverty income guidelines. At age 18, the youth reapplies for MaineCare coverage. Most youth continue to qualify for continued medical coverage. The few youth who do not qualify are those who are working full time and whose income is over the poverty guideline limits.

Can Youth in Care Get Driver’s Licenses?

Yes

Outreach workers or social workers will help youth obtain their driver's license.

Does the State Offer Tuition Waivers for Foster Youth?

Yes

The tuition waiver is available to youth in voluntary extended care who are planning on attending one of the state supported post-secondary schools.
