Senate Bill 85 provides for the Foster Child Educational Assistance Act which provides free tuition at all Kansas schools to youth up until 23 years of age. Eligibility includes youth who age out of foster care; graduate from high school or complete GED while in foster care; or adoption or permanent guardianship/custodianship after 16. Does the State Have a Youth Leadership Program?Yes
Kansas has five Regional Youth Advisory Councils and one Statewide Council referred to as the Kansas Youth Advisory Council (KYAC). Any youth, 15 and older, who are or were in foster care may participate. Former foster youth may continue to participate on the KYAC beyond 21 years of age.
