Post Adjudication Review Boards (PARB)
What is the Post Adjudication Review Board?
Post Adjudication Review Boards are volunteer citizen committees appointed to serve in an advisory capacity to the district courts. These boards review court cases of every child adjudicated deprived by the State of Oklahoma, and submit written recommendations regarding best interests of children and youth. These review boards are overseen by the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth.
Who are the PARB members?
The board members are appointed by the local juvenile judge and approved by the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth. Currently in Oklahoma, there are 61 active boards comprised of more than 325 volunteers. The National Resource Center for Youth Services contracts with the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth to provide statewide training to new and existing board members.
What do juvenile case reviews address?
These reviews address safety, permanency, and well-being of children, a family’s progress on individual service plans, and compliance with state and federal laws.
How do these boards impact children and youth?
Last year, these boards reviewed juvenile court cases involving nearly 10,000 children and youth. This process assists the judge with making a more informed decision in juvenile court hearings.
